Calculating space for a specialist school
Day specialist schools are for students in Years 1-13, though some students stay until they're 21 years old. Residential specialist schools offer students residential services as well as specialised education services.
Day and residential specialist schools may have satellite units. A satellite unit is a specialised education facility within a mainstream (host) school.
Boards of a day or residential specialist school are responsible for managing the property on your base school site. Day-to-day property management is the responsibility of the mainstream school that hosts the satellite unit, though you should be consulted when any property projects are planned for the unit.
Property entitlement for specialist schools
Day and residential specialist schools have the same property entitlement. However, residential specialist schools have an additional hostel entitlement.
Area entitlement for specialist schools
Use the following table to work out the area entitlement for day and residential schools.
