Update as of February 2023: The Staffing Incentive Allowance is currently under review, with any changes subject to Collective Agreement negotiations. As the Ministry has already updated the list of eligible schools for the 2023 year, and while the review is being carried out, updates to the list are closed temporarily. We will update this page with further details later in the 2023 year. We encourage you to check out the Teacher Supply initiatives on the TeachNZ website(external link) for more information on support for teachers and schools in the interim.

About the allowance

You’ll be paid a Staffing Incentive Allowance if you’re a teacher or primary principal employed in a school/kura that the Ministry has identified as needing additional support for recruitment or retention.

Teachers are not eligible to receive both the Staffing Incentive Allowance and the Priority Teacher Supply Allowance.

Eligible schools may be changed by the Ministry of Education as needs change. This won’t happen more than once a year, and only after consultation with employee representatives. This list has been updated for 2023.
