You will be paid an allowance if you are employed as a Resource Teacher Learning and Behaviour (RTLB).

Location of RTLBs

Resource Teachers Learning and Behaviour (RTLBs) are grouped into 40 clusters around New Zealand. Each cluster is based at a particular school (the lead school) and, although you work at different schools in your geographic area, you’re employed by the lead school.

Your pay

Pay provisions for RTLBs are set out in the collective agreements as follows:

Part 3.6 – Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Part 4 – Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Part 3 – Area School Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Special duties increment allowance

As an RTLB you’ll be paid a special duties increment allowance of an extra salary step or, if you’re already at your maximum step, you’ll get an additional $995 per annum.

The special duties increment allowance is set out in the collective agreements as follows:

Clause 3.18 – Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Clause 4.19 – Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Clause 3.17 – Area School Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Leadership payments

A lead school is allocated a certain number of leadership payments of $2,000 per annum, depending on staffing numbers. The board can allocate these payments to the cluster manager or any RTLB with leadership responsibility.

The leadership payment is set out in the collective agreements as follows:

Clause 3.30 – Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Clause 4.20 – Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Clause 3.29 – Area School Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Cluster managers

If you’re an RTLB cluster manager you’ll receive the:

  • special duties increment allowance
  • leadership payment, and
  • an additional salary unit of $4,000 per annum.

This salary calculation is set out in the collective agreements as follows:

Clause 3.31 – Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Clause 4.21 – Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement

Clause 3.30 – Area School Teachers’ Collective Agreement
