Further information on pay can be found in a principal or teacher’s employment agreement, the conditions of which must be adhered to.
Teachers
If you’re a primary, secondary or area school teacher your pay provisions are set out in your employment agreement.
Your base salary will depend on your qualifications, experience, and whether you qualify for any units or allowances. There are six salary groups for trained teachers, each with a minimum and a maximum salary. Your salary group depends on your qualifications.

Principals
If you’re a primary, secondary or area school principal your pay provisions are set out in your employment agreement.
You pay is made up of:
- roll-based salary
- staffing-based salary
- decile payment
- payment for leading literacy and numeracy.
You can also qualify for:
- a salary increase based on the number of years you’ve been a principal and whether you meet the professional standards, and
- other allowances, which are added to your salary.
