The rights and responsibilities specified in an employment agreement must be adhered to. This page supports Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu and their early childhood teachers to understand the rights and responsibilities that are associated with their roles, as stated in a teacher’s employment agreement.
Who's covered by the collective agreement
You're covered by the Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu Early Childhood Teachers’ Collective Agreement if:
- your work is covered by this agreement, and
- you’re a member of the teachers’ union, the New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa (NZEI Te Riu Roa).
To check if your work is covered by the agreement read the full coverage text in the collective agreement.
Who's covered by the individual employment agreement (IEA)
You need to sign an individual employment agreement (IEA) if:
- your work is covered by this agreement, but
- you're not a member of the NZEI Te Riu Roa.
The terms and conditions of employment of the IEA are similar to those of the Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu Early Childhood Teachers' Collective Agreement, with all the necessary modifications applicable to an IEA for this group of employees.
Your IEA will be Ministry promulgated, which means the Ministry of Education develops and approves the IEA.
The effective date for this IEA is from the date of signing, which can be no earlier than the date of promulgation, 19 September 2019.
