Education Amendment Bill 2018 information release
The Education Amendment Bill 2018 makes a number of key amendments to the Education Act 1989 and the Education (Update) Amendment Act 2017. The Bill was introduced on 8 February 2018. The Bill removes the provisions relating to National Standards and the partnership school model from legislation. The Bill also makes improvements to the new strategic planning and reporting framework for schools and Kura.
The Bill creates a new offence of making a false representation in relation to an application for fees-free tertiary education. The Bill also restores guaranteed places for staff and students on the councils of tertiary education institutions.
