Schools payroll remediation
The Ministry is working to remediate current and former school employees who have not received the correct entitlements.
This complex programme of work will be ongoing over the next several years.
It involves understanding the causes and impacts of known issues, fixing the errors and making remediation payments to those who are owed them.
At this stage, we are making payments related to:
- final pay when ending a job
- KiwiSaver remediation and compensation
- SSRSS and TRSS superannuation compensation
- Holidays Act remediation for current school employees.
If you are entitled to remediation, we’ll contact you directly when we’re ready to make a payment.
If you’ve left the school sector, we’ll use your last known contact details. If your details have changed, you can update your contact information by registering on the Schools Payroll Remediation Portal(external link).
If you have questions about schools payroll remediation, the best way to get in touch is via our query form(external link).
You can also contact the team by:

Keeping yourself safe from phishing scams
Phishing is when someone uses an email, text or phone call to try to get access to sensitive information (like bank account numbers and passwords).
For schools payroll remediation payments, we will never ask you for your bank account login and password. The information you receive from us will direct you to the Ministry of Education’s website.
Phishing scammers will claim to be from a legitimate organisation, and often have email addresses or websites that look very real. They'll often ask you to claim a prize, check your details, or tell you that your account is expiring or needs to be checked.
