International Education Strategy
Supporting international education to thrive and provide economic, social and cultural benefits for all New Zealand.
About our strategy
The New Zealand International Education Strategy, released on 10 August 2018, sets a path for the future of the international education sector. It replaces the 2011 Leadership Statement for International Education.
The strategy sets out 3 goals and key actions for government agencies to give effect to the strategy, as well as measures and indicators for success.
- Delivering an excellent education and student experience.
- Achieving sustainable growth.
- Developing global citizens.
It's underpinned by the International Student Wellbeing Strategy and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of New Zealand’s immigration system.
The Ministry of Education and Education New Zealand co-developed the strategy in consultation with international education stakeholders including education providers, international and domestic students, peak bodies and community groups.
