This is the new version of the licensing criterion and associated guidance.
Criterion PF119#
☀ There is a toilet and handwashing/drying facilities suitable for adults to use that minimises the spread of infection.
Guidance#
How to show you are complying #
You must provide adults working in your service with suitable toilet, handwashing and drying facilities. The toilet and handwashing facilities should be accessible for all adults to use.
The handwashing and drying facilities must include a handbasin, with warm running water, soap, and ways to dry hands effectively, like paper towels or dryers.
A sun symbol (☀) indicates that the adult toilet and handwashing facilities can be outside the main building, as long as there is adequate access. You can read the definition of adequate access in the glossary.
This criterion works with PF118 – Handwashing and drying facilities and PF117 – Toilets.
Minimising the spread of infection
Handwashing and drying facilities used with toilets must be clearly separated from areas used for play and food preparation.
Toilets must have an effective plumbing and drainage system. This helps reduces the risk of contamination and makes sure waste is removed safely.
All surfaces in the toilet and handwashing facilities should be smooth, solid, and easy to clean.
You need to make sure there is an effective ventilation system in place to reduce airborne pathogens from spreading. This could involve extraction fans or windows that encourage airflow.
