What steps have you taken to make sure there is a space for adults where children are not present which meets these requirements?

The space you provide for adults to use for planned beaks, meet privately, store curriculum support materials and assess, plan and evaluate.

Providing a space where children are not present allows adults to take uninterrupted breaks, store resources, and carry out professional tasks like planning and evaluation in an undisturbed environment.

Doing more than the minimum helps make things better for children and easier for staff. Below are some ideas you can consider:

When setting up a space for staff to use, it’s helpful to think about a few practical things: 

• how many staff work at your service?
• how long is your service open each day?
• what types of roles do your staff have—for example, do you have any administrative staff?
• is it workable for administrative staff to share the space with others who are using it to relax during meal breaks?
• all services need to ensure confidential information and records can be kept secure. In services without a lockable staff room or office, this can be achieved through the provision of lockable cupboards and/or lockable filing cabinets.
