Criterion PF216#
Where children wearing nappies attend, there are safe and hygienic nappy changing facilities.
Guidance#
How to show you are complying#
If a child in the home wears nappies, the home will need safe and hygienic nappy change facilities. To be hygienic, they need to be separated from food preparation or eating areas.
If you're using a change table, you need safety protocols in place. For example:
- it must be strong and stable
- use the safety strap if there is one available
- or if no strap is available, keep one hand on the child.
Make sure all surfaces around the nappy change area are smooth, waterproof, and easy to clean and sanitise. Towels are not suitable. Change mats must have a wipeable cover or be thrown away after each use.
Depending on the strength of the table available, older or heavier children, and children with developmental delays may need to be changed the floor, with a mat to maintain hygiene.
