Introduction

Section 43 of the Employment Relations Act 2000 (the Act) requires that on receiving a notice of intention to bargain for a collective agreement under the Act, details of that notice are to be drawn to the attention of all employees who come within the coverage of the intended agreement within ten days of receiving that notice.

Notices of Initiation - area, primary and secondary teachers

On 2 May 2022 the Ministry of Education received formal notification from the New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa and/or the New Zealand Post Primary Teachers' Association Te Wehengarua that it seeks to renew the Area School Teachers' Collective Agreement, the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement, and the Secondary Teachers' Collective Agreement.  The current collective agreements all expire on 30 June 2022.

The three Initiation of Bargaining notices attached below (one for area schools, one for primary schools and one for secondary schools) outlines the coverage clause proposed for each collective agreement.  The proposed coverage clause applies to those employees employed in a state or state integrated school who are employed by a School Board.

A copy of the relevant notice below needs to be provided as soon as possible to any employee(s) that may be covered by the renewed Area School Teachers' Collective Agreement, or the renewed Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement, or the renewed Secondary Teachers' Collective Agreement.
