Consultation for Te Whakangārahu Ngātahi: Planning Together for Ākonga Success – Our School, Our Community

Public consultation is running from 13 March – 6 April on new school planning and reporting regulations and supports.

On 1 January 2023, the new planning and reporting framework in the Education and Training Act 2020 (the Act) came into effect. Know more about the changes on Improving schools' planning and reporting page

From 13 March – 6 April 2023, we are consulting on an exposure draft of new Regulations and material to support implementation of the new framework. There are currently transitional arrangements in place until new regulations take effect from mid-2023.

Information for this consultation, including how to submit a response, will be available from 13 March on the Ministry’s Kōrero Mātauranga Planning and Reporting(external link) page. This will include:

  • Draft Regulations
    • These set out the minimum requirements for schools’ planning and reporting documents including the strategic plan, annual implementation plan, and annual report including statement of variance
  • A Consultation Guide
    • This sets out the content of the Regulations, the reasons for the change, and how people can make a submission.
    • Translated versions of the consultation guide will also be available in te reo Māori, Samoan, Tongan, and Simplified Chinese.
  • A draft support toolkit for English Medium boards and principals:
    • to assist them with their planning and reporting processes
    • will be further developed based on what we hear from this engagement.
  • A draft brochure for whānau and communities
    • This will explain what planning and reporting is, why it is important and how they can get involved with their school’s planning process.

For supports for Kaupapa Māori and Māori Medium settings, we will be directly in touch.
