Iwi partnerships
Many Māori learners are connected to their whānau, hapū and iwi. Because of these connections, forming partnerships with these wider groups is important when working with Māori leaners.
Iwi are Treaty of Waitangi partners as well as part of a local community. Their involvement in a Community of Learning can help accelerate the progression and achievement of Māori learners by:
- strengthening the cultural responsiveness of teachers and leaders
- embedding iwitanga (identity, language and culture) into local curricula
- supporting whānau to confidently engage with their child’s education provider.

Pacific partnerships
The active involvement of parents, family and community in a Community of Learning will support and boost Pacific children’s progress and achievement.
Parents and families can make a significant difference to their children’s achievement. A partnership between Pacific people and a Community of Learning will incorporate the strength and influence of parents, families and communities and support educational success of Pacific learners.
