As parents and carers, we want the best for our children. And the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are designed to ensure just that.

The strengthened national curriculum is organised into five phases, or tūārere of learning and includes year-by-year teaching and learning sequences.

This means your child | tamaiti will build on their last year's learning.

It sets out what your child | tamaiti is expected to learn over their time at school | kura including the intended levels of knowledge, understanding and skill to be achieved.

The curricula are clear, sequenced and evidence-based.

It means teachers | kaiako will use explicit teaching which involves connecting current learning to what your child or tamaiti already knows, providing concise step-by-step explanations with your tamaiti or child's input, and discussion, explaining, modelling and demonstrating new learning, regularly checking for understanding and providing feedback and providing opportunities for your tamaiti or child to practice both in groups and independently.
