In October 2025, we released the updated Years 0-10 Te Reo Rangatira and Pāngarau wāhanga ako for schools and kura to start using in Term 1 2026.
We can now confirm that the draft Te Marautanga o Aotearoa framework and Tau 0-10 wāhanga ako (Pūtaiao, Te Ao Māori, Waiora, Toi Ihiihi, Hangarau, Ngā Reo, and Te Reo Pākeha) will be released for consultation on Wednesday 28 January 2026.
While the release was originally planned for Term 4 in 2025, alongside the New Zealand Curriculum, it’s important that New Zealanders have the best possible version available to consider and provide feedback on.
Therefore, we are taking a bit more time to work on the framework and wāhanga ako, so that those who review it can provide considered feedback to confirm that the curriculum will deliver quality outcomes for mokopuna.
We also recognise that this is already an extremely busy time for schools and kura, and we don’t want to add to the workload for tumuaki and kaiako this year.
We are also developing a range of resources to support tumuaki and kaiako to help implement the new curriculum.
E tipu e rea mō ngā rā o tōu ao.
Ko tō ringa ki ngā rākau a te Pākehā hei ara mō tō tinana.
Ko tō ngākau ki ngā taonga a ō tīpuna Māori hei tikitiki mō tō māhuna.
Ko tō wairua ki tō Atua, nāna nei ngā mea katoa.
Grow up and thrive for the days destined to you.
Let your hands be on the tools of the Pākehā to provide for your body.
Let your heart be on the treasures of your Māori ancestors as a crown for your brow.
Let your soul be with your Atua, to whom all things belong.
