
Pūtaiao helps students understand the natural world. They learn to observe, question, investigate and make sense of how living things, environments and natural systems work together.
It supports learners to build knowledge, curiosity, critical thinking and an understanding of te taiao (the environment). It provides clear learning pathways across Tau 0 to 10 | Year 0 to 10.
This wāhanga ako | learning area:
- is organised into 4 whēnu (knowledge strands)
- supports learning through observation, investigation and evidence-based reasoning
- strengthens learning progressions across Tau 0 to 10
- helps learners understand biodiversity, Earth systems, materials and environmental sustainability
- connects learning to te taiao and real-world contexts.
As well as the curriculum content, we are sharing the feedback we received during consultation and how it helped strengthen the final curriculum.
