
Having LSCs in every school with ākonga | students in Years 1 to 8 provides greater access for learners, whānau | families and communities to support attendance and lift achievement.
Currently, some regions have 18% access to a LSC while others have 57%.
From 2026, every region will have around 60% access to staffing entitlement for an LSC. That means 103,818 learners in 474 schools across New Zealand will benefit from new LSCs in 2026. This brings dedicated learning support closer to the learners who need it most.
