In this issue#
This edition set out to explore how you support ākonga to grow as thinkers and problem-solvers, particularly in STEM. What emerged is a broader picture of what it means to nurture a generation ready to shape the future – one step, and playground, at a time.
Across the motu, we found that future-focused learning is found in rangatahi sharing their voices through theatre at Ōtāhuhu College, and in the pathways being strengthened for Māori STEMM leadership in Greater Wellington. It is visible in the small, intentional acts that shape school culture, like a simple “good morning” at Macleans College, and in the opening of new spaces in Twizel built for its unique history and climate.
You will see it in the care taken to grow ethical, thoughtful scientists at Feilding High School, and in the way learning comes alive through place at Kauri Flats School and Te Kura o Hanana. It is there when ākonga take the lead, whether redesigning neighbourhood play spaces in Gore, reducing emissions through active travel in Carterton, or engaging with civics in an election year. And it is supported by the collective work of kaiako, including those across Auckland building clarity and confidence in mathematics for every learner.
