We will retain our role in regulation of state schools as well as policy, funding, curriculum and setting standards for early learning.

Education Review Office (ERO) Chief Executive and Chief Review Officer David Ferguson and Secretary for Education Ellen MacGregor-Reid say both agencies will continue to work together for a smooth transition and to support the sector and community.

“For providers, private schools, parents and whānau, the change provides clearer information about where to go for review and regulatory matters,” David Ferguson says. “ERO’s role is to support safe, high-quality education through review, evaluation, compliance monitoring and enforcement where appropriate.”

Secretary for Education Ellen MacGregor-Reid says: “The Ministry of Education will continue to lead the system settings that sit behind early childhood education regulation, including standards and criteria, curriculum and funding. We are as focused as ever on shaping an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes for all learners, from early learning through to tertiary.”

Both Ellen MacGregor Reid and David Ferguson acknowledged the tremendous work by kaimahi | staff of both organisations to create a smooth transfer and deliver ongoing support for the sector and the community.
