The Healthy School Lunches programme provides more than a million free healthy lunches every week to students in schools and kura around Aotearoa New Zealand.
You can find a list of schools and kura included in the Healthy School Lunches programme here.
How schools are included in the programme#
We know there are other schools and kura that would benefit from free lunches. Funding is limited, so we aim to reach the top 25% of students in schools and kura that need the most support.
We use the Equity Index to:
- decide which schools we need to include to reach these students
- work out which schools may need extra funding and resources.
The Equity Index is reviewed each year. This sometimes means schools and kura not in the school lunches programme before will be invited to join. Any schools and kura who were getting lunches but fall below the 25% threshold will still be part of the Healthy School Lunches programme.
At the moment, the programme is funded until the end of 2027.
