
Achievement and curriculum#
Schools are required to:
- use the new guidance for reporting to parents and whānau | families
- plan and deliver your curriculum day, or days.
Schools and kura using the New Zealand Curriculum#
Schools and kura that received the Years 0 to 2 staffing should access or consider applying for targeted structured literacy approach professional learning and development (PLD).
Structured literacy approaches and maths PLD that schools should consider applying for include:
- curriculum leadership in Years 0 to 8 English
- English for Years 0 to 6
- maths for Years 0 to 8.
Schools and kura using Te Marautanga o Aotearoa#
Schools and kura should access and/or apply for the following Tau 0 to 8 PLD:
- Poutama Pāngarau PLD.
- Rangaranga Reo ā-Tā PLD.
Schools and kura should consider reviewing, modifying or implementing school systems for:
- Hihira Weteoro | phonics check
- planning and preparing your kura to monitor ākonga | student progress and achievement
- accelerated learning – use your ākonga data to decide whether to apply for accelerated supports.

Attendance#
Attendance codes#
Schools can take up the available training webinars on attendance codes. Dates will be confirmed in the Bulletin on 22 July.
Apply to be an attendance service provider#
If your school wants to become an attendance service provider, submit an application by 10am on 23 July. New contracts are expected to be awarded in October.
Some schools will also have the option of applying to provide in-school provider (ISP) attendance contracts. Eligible schools will be contacted in July and invited to apply for that component of the service. New contracts will be awarded by the end of September.

Attendance reporting for kura#
From the start of Term 3, specified kura boards will need to report attendance data daily. This applies to:
- Kura kaupapa Māori
- designated character schools with a character that is hapū or iwi-based or that affiliates with Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa
- a state-integrated school with a special character that is hapū or iwi-based.
Prosecution cases#
Discuss possible prosecution cases with your local attendance service provider. Consideration of whether prosecution is an appropriate action will be in accordance with the Ministry’s Prosecution and Warnings Policy.

Workforce initiative searcher for principals (WISP) – Education Workforce
This includes:
- information on recruiting overseas teachers, tools and funding available to you
- employment-based initial teacher education (EBITE) applications that are open and close on 31 July
- funding for teacher registration and practicing certificates
- free online Te Poipoi Kaiako PLD programme available for mentor teachers in supporting beginning teachers in their first year of teaching.
Leadership advisor expressions of interest are open until 25 July. In addition to regional leadership advisor roles, there are 8 specialist positions to support key areas of the sector.
