
The Ngarimu video and waiata composition competitions provide ākonga Māori in Years 7 to 13 the opportunity to explore their creativity, practise storytelling and learn about the history of the 28th (Māori) Battalion.
The competitions were developed in memory of Victoria Cross recipient Second Lieutenant Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa Ngarimu and the 28th (Māori) Battalion. They aim to inspire ākonga | students to connect with the Māori language, culture and traditions in relation to the battalion.
Ākonga are invited to submit a short film or waiata in English or te reo Māori for a chance to win 1 of 6 prizes for themselves and their school or kura. Entries can be submitted individually, as a team or on behalf of a school or kura.
Prize details are outlined below and may vary depending on the number of recipients for each placing.
