About the scholarships#

The 2026 Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarships Awards Ceremony will take place at Parliament in Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington on Thursday, 26 March 2026.

These prestigious scholarships recognise ākonga Māori pursuing tertiary studies who embody the values of the 28th (Māori) Battalion. They provide inspiration, mentoring and financial support to help students achieve their educational goals.

This year’s recipients include 2 doctoral candidates, 2 master’s students, 3 undergraduate students and 3 vocational education and training students.

The ceremony will also celebrate the winners of the Ngarimu Video Competition and the Ngarimu Waiata Composition Competition, giving Years 7 to 13 ākonga Māori the opportunity to honour the contributions of the 28th (Māori) Battalion and connect with their wider hapū and iwi heritage.

The event is a special occasion for whānau, hapū and iwi to come together and celebrate the achievements of the scholarship and award recipients.
