Summary and progress#

The Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) Early Childhood Education (ECE) funding review has completed its discovery phase, hearing people’s experiences and views on the challenges and opportunities in the ECE funding system.

Next steps#

MAG members are now considering what they have heard and learned, working through the complex considerations to inform advice and recommendations to re-shape the ECE funding system. 

Consultation on indicative options is now anticipated mid-year, before the MAG completes further work to finalising its advice and recommendations by the end of 2026.

About the ECE funding review  #

The Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) was appointed by and reports to the Associate Minister of Education, Hon David Seymour. It will provide advice and recommendations to re-shape the ECE funding system to deliver more for children, families, the sector and the economy.
