Ministry of Education New Zealand

Overview#

The Ministry of Education regularly monitors population growth, enrolment patterns, and future school roll changes across Tamaki Makaurau. As part of this regular monitoring, the Ministry now considers an amendment is necessary for Scott Point School and Hobsonville Point Primary Schools.

The enrolment schemes for both schools will need to be amended so that the size of the zones match the optimum capacity of the schools and to prevent overcrowding. For this reason, the Ministry of Education is proposing an amendment of the Scott Point School and Hobsonville Point Primary School enrolment schemes.

This is aimed at reducing the risk of overcrowding and distributing students evenly across the network.

The focus is on ensuring every student has a reasonably convenient school that they can attend. Safety of students and teachers is our priority, and the proposed changes we are suggesting are the best way to avoid overcrowding.

Any student currently enrolled at Scott Point School and Hobsonville Point Primary School will not be impacted by a change to the enrolment scheme. All students enrolled and have started attending will be entitled to continue attending their school, irrespective of where they currently live.

What this means for your family#

If you live in the enrolment scheme home area for Scott Point School and Hobsonville Point Primary School, you will be entitled to enrol your child at the school. The enrolment remains in place for the length of your child’s primary education or until you choose other schooling options.

Families who live outside the amended enrolment scheme home zone do not have entitlement to enrol.

The amendment is proposed to take effect from Term 1, 2026.

Any pre-enrolments for 2026 may be impacted by the proposed amendment. Please check that you are within the proposed boundaries of the new home zone to be entitled to enrol at Scott Point School.

Amended area and grandparenting clause#

Transitional arrangement (Grandparenting clause)#

These are for families of currently enrolled students whose addresses become “out of zone” due to this amendment to the enrolment scheme home zone

In addition, the properties in the amended area (see red dotted line) as shown in the diagram below (proposed area to be grandparented) shall be deemed to form part of the home zone, provided a child residing at that address in the proposed area shown below has a sibling who currently attends the school.

When the family living at the address ceases to attend the school, the property shall cease to be part of the home zone.
