Overview#

The purpose of an enrolment scheme is to:

assist the school board to manage the risk of overcrowding
provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment
make sure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.

Enrolment schemes do mean that all families will have entitlement to attend a school that is reasonably convenient to them but won’t necessarily have the same entitlement to enrol at all state schools.

Important

All students who are already enrolled at a school before a home zone is implemented or changed are entitled to stay at their current school.

The Home Zone includes addresses on both sides of the boundary roads mentioned
in the description unless otherwise stated.
Starting from the intersection of Girling Avenue and Pitchill Street, the home zone
follows:
North along Girling Avenue until Hutcheson Street
Including Smith Avenue,
And including Costello Avenue
South along Hutcheson Street until Farmar Street
Including Hutcheson Street between Farmar Steet and Pitchill Street
East along Farmar Street until Warwick Street
Including Bomford Street between Farmar Street and Pitchill Street
South-east along Warwick Street until Grove Road
North along Grove Road until Budge Street
East along Budge Street until Gascoigne Street
Including Shirtliff Street
South along Gascoigne Street until Lucas Street
West along Lucas Street until Elizabeth Street
West along Elizabeth Street until it meets with the Ōpaoa River
East along the northern bank of the Ōpaoa River until it is online with the
eastern end of Budge Street
West along Budge Street until Grove Road
Including all side streets off the northern side of Budge Street
North along Grove Road until State Highway 1
North along State Highway 1 until Lower Wairau Road
South back along State Highway 1 and Grove Road until Dodson Street
West along Dodson Street until Lansdowne Street
North-west along Lansdowne Street until Old Renwick Road
Including Grady Street
West along Old Renwick Street up to and including 16 Old Renwick Road
Including Waipuna Street, and all side streets off it

What happens next#

We are currently undertaking consultation about the new enrolment scheme. You can have your say by:

We will consider all feedback and consult with the school board before making a final decision. We expect the school community to be updated about progress made before the end of 2025. The new schemes and changes are expected to come into effect for 2026.

Submissions are official information#

Submissions you make become official information. The content of submissions can be asked for under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). Under the OIA, we must make information available unless there is good reason for withholding it.

Tell us if you have any objections to the release of any information used in your submission, particularly which part(s) you believe should be withheld, along with the reason. Reasons might include that it is commercially sensitive, or it is personal information.

We will take into consideration any objections when responding to OIA requests. Any decision we make to withhold information can be reviewed by the Ombudsman, who may tell us to release it.
