Purpose of this consultation#
We want to hear from and understand community views before we establish an amendment to the enrolment scheme at Broadfield School. We especially want feedback about the design and practical implications of the proposed home zone amendment.
Look at the map and all the information available before you participate in the consultation process.
About enrolment schemes#
Enrolment schemes help school boards manage enrolments and guarantee children can attend their local school.
A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone.
The purpose of an enrolment scheme is to:
- help the board to manage the risk of overcrowding
- provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment
- make sure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.
What is changing#
Because there are many houses being built around the current boundaries of the Broadfield School home zone, we are proposing to:
- change the home zone to exclude addresses on the northern side of Hamptons Road between Shands Road and Springs Road. These addresses are an overlap with Prebbleton School's home zone, but we are proposing that they instead be part of the home zone of new school, Koromiko Mākoha, from the start of 2027
- update the map to reflect current land parcels and better identify which addresses on boundary roads should be considered in-zone.
The amended enrolment scheme is proposed to commence from 1 January 2027.
We are separately consulting on the proposed new enrolment scheme for Koromiko Mākoha and changes to the home zone of Prebbleton School.

Eligibility to enrol#
All students who live in the home zone of Broadfield School will be entitled to attend the school. Those that live outside the home zone may be accepted if there are out-of-zone places available and applications meet legislative requirements.
To be able to do this, boards at state schools keep an eye on the number of applications received from in-zone students to help them determine the places they might have available for out-of-zone students once all in-zone enrolments are accepted.
All students who are already enrolled at Broadfield School before the proposed enrolment scheme amendment starts can stay at Broadfield School. Siblings of current students will have priority access to any out-of-zone places offered by the school.
Any siblings of current students currently living in the withdrawal area may be able to enrol at the school under the specific 'additional entitlement to enrol' provision. This is also known as 'grandparenting'. See the 'Additional entitlement to enrol in certain circumstances' document for more information.
If you have any feedback on the inclusion of this provision, please provide it in the survey.
