In-school learning support coordinator increase for Years 1 to 8#
All learners in Years 1 to 8 in state and state-integrated schools and kura will have access to a learning support coordinator (LSC) by 2028.
Across New Zealand, 461 schools will receive new LSC staffing entitlement in 2026. This means an additional 101,117 learners will have access to a LSC next year. By 2028, an additional 300,000 students will get access to an in-school LSC across 1131 schools.
The new LSC staffing entitlement is for schools and kura with learners in Years 1 to 8 that do not currently have access to an LSC. Schools that access LSCs as part of a cluster will continue to do that.
Having LSCs in every school with Years 1 to 8 will support students to get the right help earlier, make it easier for families to understand and access learning support at school, and better support teachers to meet diverse learning needs.
Schools will hear from their local Director of Education with more information today.
