Dengue resources#

With dengue cases soaring across the Pacific Islands, travellers are urged to protect themselves from being bitten by mosquitoes.

Many countries, including American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu are experiencing dengue cases.

People can get sick if bitten by infected mosquitoes in areas with dengue. At greatest risk are children under 10, people over 60, and those who’ve had dengue before.

Anyone feeling sick with symptoms within three weeks of returning home from a country with dengue, should contact their healthcare provider, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116.

For more information, visit the Ministry of Health website.

Targeted Funding for Disadvantage#

Targeted Funding for Disadvantage for the period March 2026 to February 2027 will be calculated from the attendance data you have supplied to the Early Learning Information (ELI) system for the period 1 April to 30 June.

To make sure services receive the correct entitlement for targeted funding, it is important that you provide your most current ELI data by 3 October.

You must ensure that the names of the children attending your service have been entered correctly into ELI. The names should match those on official identification documentation that has been provided, such as the child’s birth certificate or passport.

More information about targeted funding can be found in the ECE Funding Handbook.

Update on secure data portal access#

Access to information in the secure data portal (SDP) has recently changed. The SDP is now only used for targeted funding and waha rumaki and Pacific immersion teachers’ allowance (PITA) funding information.

This information is now accessed using the service provider ID number, rather than the individual service number.

We have highlighted a collection of resources suitable for early learning settings to support teachers in planning meaningful learning experiences and deepening engagement with te reo Māori for mokopuna.
