School-led projects#
When planning a school-led property project, the design must meet our weathertightness design requirements and the New Zealand Building Code.
Building envelope assessment submission#
Project managers and designers must submit a building envelope assessment submission form to the construction advisory mailbox to request a review.
You can download the building envelope assessment submission form below.
Email: construction.advisory@education.govt.nz
The submission form must be completed and signed by both the project manager and designer. They must provide confirmation that the design has been reviewed and checked against our weathertightness design requirements before submitting for the building envelope assessment.
Assessment and feedback#
The construction advisory report will give an overall status of the building envelope assessment, using a simple traffic light system (red, amber and green) to indicate any need for further action.
If the report indicates a green status, the project can proceed.
If the report indicates an amber status, the project manager and designer must collate responses to queries raised or supply requested information to close out the flagged items in the report. The project can proceed once flagged items raised are agreed to our satisfaction.
If the report indicates a red status, the project manager and designer need to follow the resubmission process. If any major concerns are identified, the appropriate infrastructure manager will be notified. The designer and project manager must work on solutions for the concerns raised.
Resubmission#
The project manager and designer must address, and acceptably close out, each individual comment in the building envelope assessment.
The response should:
- refer to specific drawings and reports
- provide supporting information, keeping comments concise and factual
- highlight key decision rationale and the benefits of these decisions
- be dated and initialed so that design decision-making is accurately recorded.
The resubmission process is complete once all actions and flagged items raised in the building envelope assessment are agreed to our satisfaction.
