This creates new fit-for-purpose administrative settings for Wānanga to recognise their mana, rangatiratanga and unique role in the tertiary education system.
This includes Wānanga being able, through an Order in Council, to reconstitute themselves with bespoke governance arrangements, or convert to have more formal accountability to their founding iwi.
We worked closely with Te Wānanga o Raukawa to convert its administrative and accountability arrangements under the new enabling framework via an Order in Council.
This information release provides key documents and decisions that led to the development of the Order in Council for Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
Where information in these documents has not been released, the relevant Official Information Act 1982 grounds for withholding have been noted.
The Order in Council has received Royal Assent and is available on the New Zealand legislation website. This is the first piece of secondary legislation made in te reo Māori and in English.
