What's in a regulatory impact statement (RIS)#

A regulatory impact statement provides:

  • a high-level summary of the problem being addressed
  • the options and their associated costs and benefits
  • the consultation undertaken
  • the proposed arrangements for implementation and review.

When and where we publish RISs#

We publish RISs:

  • when the relevant Bill is introduced to Parliament, or
  • when the regulation is gazetted, or
  • at the time of ministerial release.
