Enrolment schemes#
Enrolment schemes help school boards manage enrolments and make sure children living in a school's home zone can enrol at the school.
The purpose of an enrolment scheme for a state school is to:
- help the board to manage the risk of overcrowding
- provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment
- make sure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.
What is changing#
A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone. The proposed home zone for Te Kura o Hau Karetu sets out a geographic area from within which students would have a right to enrol at the school.
All students who are already enrolled at a school before a home zone is put in place or changed are entitled to stay at the school.
Entitlement to enrol#
All students who live in the home zone of Te Kura o Hau Karetu will be entitled to attend the school.
Students who live outside the home zone may be able to enrol if there are out-of-zone places available and their application is accepted.
The school's board will advertise:
- the number of out-of-zone places
- deadlines and procedures for applications
- the dates their ballots will be held.
