Purpose and principles of an enrolment scheme – New Zealand Legislation
How this applies to a state integrated school – New Zealand Legislation
If there is, or is likely to be, more applicants for enrolment at a state integrated school than there are places available, we must establish an enrolment scheme for the school. State integrated schools are not required to have a home zone but must accord priority to applicants for whom the school is a reasonably convenient school.
The proposed enrolment scheme identifies an area of reasonable convenience for St Mark's School (Christchurch) defined as Christchurch City and the Selwyn District. Applicants who reside in these areas will be prioritised above those who live outside them.
This enrolment scheme is proposed to commence from 1 January 2026.
Note that all students who are already enrolled at this school before the enrolment scheme commences are entitled to stay at the school.
It is important that we hear and understand community perspectives before we establish this enrolment scheme, especially the design of the enrolment categories and priorities.
Please see FAQs for definitions of pre-enrolment and enrolment.
Information about the consultation#
Read applicable information below before taking part in the consultation.
As a result of initial feedback received, the proposed enrolment scheme has been altered (as of 25 August) to change the priority of siblings of former students. This change would align the priority for siblings of former students with the children of former students.
