Ministry of Education New Zealand

Overview

The proposed amendment would include the area to the north of the school (between the Waikato Expressway and Horsham Downs Road/Ennion Rise) in the school’s home zone.

This area is residential zoned and has been significantly developed since the home zone was originally drawn. The area is accessible to the school via an underpass.

Note – this area is also zoned for Horsham Downs Primary School for years 1-8. The Ministry does not intend to change the Horsham Downs Primary School home zone at this time.

The amendment would also change the wording of the home zone description for the Year 9-10 home zone to reflect changes in the roading network/names in the Greenhills area. This is for clarity and will not change the geographic boundary of the Year 9-10 zone.

Please have a look at the draft maps and written description before you participate in the consultation process.

It’s important that we hear and understand community perspectives before we amend the enrolment scheme for Rototuna Junior High School.

What happens next

After consultation is finished, the Ministry of Education will collate all feedback and process this information to ensure it meets the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020 (Schedule 20, Clause 5). If the Ministry is satisfied that the enrolment scheme amendment meets these requirements, the enrolment scheme will be finalised and provided to the Board. The school’s board must implement the finalised enrolment scheme as soon as practicable.

The amended scheme is proposed to commence from Term 1, 2025.
