Purpose of this consultation#

Due to an increase in enrolments, Ōtorohanga Primary School is now at risk of overcrowding, so we are working with the school's board to develop a new enrolment scheme.

We want to hear from and understand community views before we establish the scheme. Look at the draft map and written description before you participate in the consultation process.

About enrolment schemes#

Enrolment schemes help school boards manage enrolments and guarantee children can attend their local school.

The purpose of an enrolment scheme is to:

  • help the board to manage the risk of overcrowding
  • provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment
  • make sure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.

Enrolment schemes

What is changing#

A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone. The proposed home zone for Ōtorohanga Primary School sets out a geographic area and students living in this area will have the right to enrol at the school. See the map and written description below.

The enrolment scheme is proposed to start on 20 July 2026.

Any student who is already enrolled at Ōtorohanga Primary School before the enrolment scheme begins is entitled to stay at the school.

Ōtorohanga Primary School proposed enrolment scheme survey

What happens next?#

After the consultation ends, we will gather and review all the feedback to make sure the proposed enrolment scheme meets the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020. If we agree it meets these rules, the scheme will be finalised, and the Ōtorohanga Primary School Board will put the enrolment scheme in place.
