From 1 September, the Education Review Office (ERO) licenses and certifies early childhood education providers, licenses school hostels and registers private schools. We are still responsible for state school regulation and policy, funding, curriculum, and setting standards for early learning.
This consultation is about a proposed new enrolment scheme for Levin School.
We want to hear and understand community perspectives before we put the scheme in place at Levin School, especially about the design and practical implications of the home zone and the proposed start date.

A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone. The proposed amendment to the home zone for Levin School sets out a geographic area from within which students would have a right to enrol at the school.
The commencement date of the enrolment scheme is yet to be determined.
All students who are already enrolled at a school before a home zone is implemented or changed are entitled to stay at the school.

Home Zone
All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the school. (All numbers are inclusive).
The boundary begins at the intersection of Oxford Street, Hokio Beach Road and South Road, and follows South Road south-west until it transitions into State Highway 1.
Opposite Tararua Road, the boundary diverges across land parcels to connect to Bruce Road at approximately numbers 49 and 50, including all properties up to Kohitere Recreation Reserve.
From Kohitere Recreation Reserve, the boundary connects to Hokio Beach Road at approximately number 121. All addresses less than 121 are included, along with even-numbered addresses greater than 121.
The boundary follows Hokio Beach Road west to its intersection with Hokio Sand Road.
The boundary follows Hokio Sand Road, including even-numbered addresses up to and including number 112, then continues across land parcels to the coastline.
The boundary follows the coastline north-west, encompassing the Hokio Beach settlement, excluding Hydrabad Drive and Rua Avenue
The boundary continues inland past Waitarere Hokio Road (not in zone), encompassing Moutere Road, Lake Horowhenua and Muaupoko Park.
The boundary continues to encompass Lakewood Grove, Sudeng Street and Western Park.
The boundary follows Tiro Tiro Road from approximately number 137, including odd-numbered addresses only.
At the intersection of Tiro Tiro Road and Queen Street West, the boundary follows Queen Street West, including odd-numbered addresses from approximately number 121.
The boundary follows Nelson Street, including odd-numbered addresses only, then continues along the boundary of the college grounds, encompassing Dunbar Street and Forth Street, and connects to Victoria Street. Both sides of Victoria Street are included. Carlisle Street and Hannan Street are not included.
The boundary connects to Weraroa Road at approximately numbers 21 and 24, then continues through the intersection of Worcester Street and Stuckey Street, including these addresses and all smaller numbers. Worcester Street is included.
The boundary follows Saxton Street, including both sides, and encompasses Weraroa Reserve.
From Saxton Street, the boundary connects to South Lane at approximately number 72 and follows back to Oxford Street, returning to the starting point.
All students who live within the relevant home zone of Levin School will have an entitlement to attend the school. Those that live outside the home zone may be accepted if there are out-of-zone places available and their application meets legislated requirements.
Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which the school will publish. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.
