Purpose of this consultation#
This consultation is about a proposed new enrolment scheme for Levin North School.
Enrolment schemes help school boards manage enrolments and make sure children can attend their local school.
The purpose of an enrolment scheme for a state school is to:
- help the board to manage the risk of overcrowding
- provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment
- make sure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.
What is changing#
A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone. The proposed home zone for Levin North School sets out a geographic area from within which students would have a right to enrol at the school.
The commencement date of the enrolment scheme is yet to be determined.
Entitlement to enrol#
All students who are already enrolled at a school before a home zone is implemented or changed are entitled to stay at the school.
All students who live within the relevant home zone of Levin North School will have an entitlement to attend the school. Those that live outside the home zone may be accepted if there are out-of-zone places available and their application meets legislated requirements.
Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which the school will publish. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.
