Enrolment schemes

Proposed enrolment scheme amendment#

A key part of an enrolment scheme is the home zone.

The enrolment scheme home zone of Hororata School has not been updated for many years, and the current map and written description does not accurately identify the inclusion of addresses on boundary roads and does not account for land parcel changes in the area.

This enrolment scheme amendment proposes to clarify the inclusion or exclusion of addresses and to update the map to land parcels to identify more accurately which addresses on boundary roads should be considered in-zone.

Additionally, there is a proposal to withdraw from an overlap with a neighbouring school in the North of the zone. Note that the area proposed for withdrawal is within the zone of another school.

The written description will also be updated, and the enrolment scheme wording will be updated to reflect the Education and Training Act 2020.

Entitlement to enrol#

All ākonga | learners who live within the home zone of Hororata School will have an entitlement to attend the school. Those that live outside the home zone may be accepted if there are out-of-zone places available and an application meets legislative requirements.

To be able to do this, boards at state schools keep an eye on the number of applications received from in-zone students to help them determine the places they might have available for out-of-zone students once all in-zone enrolments are accepted.

All students who are already enrolled at Hororata School before the enrolment scheme amendment commences are entitled to stay at Hororata School. Siblings of current students will have priority access to any out-of-zone places offered by the school.

Start date#

The amended enrolment scheme is proposed to commence from 1 January 2026.
