E tipu e rea mō ngā rā o tōu ao.
Ko tō ringa ki ngā rākau a te Pākehā hei ara mō tō tinana.
Ko tō ngākau ki ngā taonga a ō tīpuna Māori hei tikitiki mō tō māhuna.
Ko tō wairua ki tō Atua, nāna nei ngā mea katoa.
Grow up and thrive for the days destined to you.
Let your hands be on the tools of the Pākehā to provide for your body.
Let your heart be on the treasures of your Māori ancestors as a crown for your brow.
Let your soul be with your Atua, to whom all things belong.
Overview#
The draft Te Marautanga o Aotearoa framework and Year 0-10 wāhanga ako (Pūtaiao, Waiora, Toi Ihiihi, Hangarau, Ngā Reo, and Te Reo Pākeha) were available for consultation and feeedback until Friday 24 April 2026.
Pūmanawa Tangata#
Pūmanawa Tangata replaces Tikanga ā‑Iwi in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. The draft wāhanga ako was known during development as Te Ao Māori, but it was found that Pūmanawa Tangata more fully reflects its scope and interdisciplinary intent.
In Pūmanawa Tangata, mokopuna will learn to recognise both the similarities and the diversity of cultural practices, histories, worldviews, and human experiences across time and place.
It will prepare mokopuna for senior learning pathways in subjects such as History, Geography, Classical Studies, Economics, and Business Studies.
