Overview#

Westbridge Residential School is a specialist school which provides education for students aged 9 to 15 with highly complex behavioural and social needs, as well as residential services.

Under the Education and Training Act 2020, the Minister of Education may close a specialist school if dissatisfied with the manner in which it is being conducted. As part of this process, we are consulting with the school community, stakeholders, and any other interested parties.

Why closure is being considered#

Despite ongoing intervention and support, significant concerns remain regarding the governance and operation of the school, the welfare and educational performance of its students. Westbridge Residential School is currently operating under statutory intervention.

ERO’s latest report, whilst acknowledging improvements, highlights the concerns above and recommends closure. We agree that these issues raise serious questions about the school’s ability to meet its obligations as outlined in the report, ‘Consideration of the future of Westbridge Residential School’.
