What to do if a baby is crying

If a baby is crying continually in your early learning service, always check their physical needs first. If you think the baby may be unwell, get medical help straightaway.

Get support

If you need help with a crying baby, stay calm and:

  • contact your supervising person responsible for home-based services
  • get help from another teacher for centre-based services.

While you wait for help, you could:

  • take the baby for a walk with other children in your care
  • put the baby down in a safe place where you can supervise them
  • have a drink of water or cup of tea.
