Update on affected Ministry websites and further advice#

In last week’s special issue of the Bulletin, we shared information about security vulnerabilities affecting applications online globally, including some of our Ministry websites and the actions we’re taking in response.

Special Bulletin 23 October

This issue provides further updates on our response and advice for you to action.

We appreciate your patience as we continue working on these important security updates.

Education Gazette#

We continue to prioritise work to restore access to Education Gazette vacancies.

You can now search current vacancies at:

Vacancies – Education Gazette

We expect you will be able to submit new vacancy listings by the end of today. The Education Gazette team will review and publish as usual.

Other features such as news articles will remain unavailable for now.

Advice for schools#

If you are responsible for an online service or website, check with your vendor or IT specialist to make sure the updates have been made.

If you use a common website software such as WordPress, log in and check that all software updates have been applied, including for plugins.

Where we have been able to identify vulnerable services, a block has been placed on these to prevent malicious internet access until they can be updated. Network for Learning (N4L) has been contacting these schools to assist them. We will not be able to identify all vulnerable services so please check with your website and IT provider.

Status of other Ministry websites#

The below websites are back online:

Education Workforce

NCEA

Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories

The Pourato platform is not affected. If you usually access Pourato through the Education Applications website, which is currently unavailable, use this link below instead.

Education Sector Logon – Ministry of Education

We will continue to share updates through the bulletin as we get more information.
