Immunisations this winter#
Increasing our immunisation coverage is the best prevention to protect our communities from illnesses this winter. The northern hemisphere has reported a severe flu season, and Aotearoa New Zealand is currently experiencing a pertussis (whooping cough) epidemic.
You can support your whānau and community by emphasising the importance of immunisation, letting them know what immunisations they are eligible for and where these can be accessed.

Pourato roll-out: Key dates#
Before Pourato goes live for early learning service providers on 30 June, we have a range of activities planned to help your funding contacts become familiar with our new funding system.
There is no change to how service providers submit child data and returns to us, and there are no changes to funding payment dates.
In addition to regular updates in this bulletin, here’s what you can expect over the next few months:
Mid-May | Funding contacts will receive an email about Pourato with an invitation to register for online demonstration workshops in June. |

Mid-June | Pourato demonstration workshops for funding contacts held via Microsoft Teams, covering how to navigate Pourato and accessing your funding information. |
Late June | Funding contacts receive automated emails when your RS7 return has been received, and when funding information is available in Pourato. |
30 June | Pourato goes live. Funding contacts receive an email invitation to view funding information, with links to supporting information and where to get help. |
July | There will be multiple online drop-in sessions for funding contacts to ask questions and get help using Pourato. |

Pourato for early learning – Applications and online systems
The Early Childhood Education Food Programme#
KidsCan have started delivering food boxes to 105 eligible early learning services. Implementation will be staggered, up until the 10,000 children funding threshold is reached.
KidsCan is working alongside the Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust with onboarding Ngā Kōhanga Reo that are interested to join the programme from May.
Eligible early learning services will be contacted directly with an invitation to join the programme.

Giftedness from Pacific perspectives#
A new resource is available to help you and your kaiako explore what it means to be gifted for children under 5, seen through different Pacific perspectives.
It includes:
- 4 videos from different Pacific experts who share their cultural perspectives on giftedness
- written summaries of each video, which highlight key points and provide insights into how to engage with Pacific children and their families appropriately.
The videos and their summaries help you and your kaiako create supportive environments that nurture the talents of gifted Pacific children.

Te Poipoi Kaiako | mentor programme supports available#
New workshops, learning modules, guidance resources, and workbooks are available as a part of Te Poipoi Kaiako.
Participating mentor teachers and Pou Tautoko will strengthen their skills and develop their induction and mentoring programmes. Provisional teachers and Pia will develop their professional practice as they prepare to apply for their Full Practising Certificate.

Optional electronic RS7 submission#
Casual education and care and hospital-based services can now use ELI Web to submit RS7 return data including temporary closure days electronically to us.
The change from paper-based to electronic submission of RS7 and temporary closures only through ELI Web will be optional for these services from 1 June and mandatory from 1 October.
