New Attendance Officers

As part of the Attendance Turnaround Package new attendance officer roles have been introduced to support schools, kura and learning communities to turn around attendance

Summary

In February 2023 the Government announced the Attendance Turnaround Package, an investment over five years as part of Budget 2023 to address attendance issues with urgency.

Attendance officers support schools, kura and learning communities to turn around moderate and irregular absence patterns for ākonga from years 1 to 12.

The role provides direct support to analyse and understand the drivers of absence and share a range of responses and practices across the community that increase attendance.

The role works closely with a broad range of key partners and stakeholders including parent communities and iwi, contributing to and complementing existing and emerging attendance responses.
