The 2023 award ceremony for the Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarships are being held on Friday 17 March at Te Papaiouru Marae, Ōhinemutu in Rotorua.

The Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarship and award recipients all demonstrate characteristics that align with the values of the 28th (Māori) Battalion and have a desire to give back to their communities, whānau, hapū and iwi.

The scholarships and awards being presented at the award ceremony include one doctoral, three masters, three undergraduate, three vocational education and training scholarships and two video competition awards for ākonga in Year 7 -13. The award ceremony is an opportunity for whānau to celebrate the recipients’ success.

The ceremony will be attended by members of Parliament representing the Māori Electorates, members of the Ngarimu Board, Willie Apiata VC and Tā Robert Gillies, the last surviving member of the 28th (Māori) Battalion, and other invited guests.
