Smokefree signs required at ECE centres and kōhanga reo
Early childhood education (ECE) centres and kōhanga reo are reminded of their obligations under the Smoke-free Environments Act.
The Act requires some places to be smokefree at all times including the buildings and grounds of schools and ECE centres.
The Act also requires that a notice stating that smoking within the premises is forbidden at all times is prominently displayed at or immediately inside every entrance to the premises and every outer entrance to every building or enclosed area forming part of the premises. This excludes areas that are not normally used by young people, temporary in nature, or used for emergencies only.
There are green metal signs specifically for ECE centres and kōhanga reo that are available free of charge. You can order some through the Smokefree website. They are available in English and te reo Māori.
