High Priority Principals’ Allowance

Secondary and area school principals who are employed at an eligible school are paid a High Priority Principals’ Allowance.

About the allowance

Allowances are paid to teachers and principals employed in schools identified by the Ministry of Education as requiring additional support for recruitment or retention.

The eligible schools list may be changed by the Ministry as needs change. This won’t happen more than once a year, and only after consultation with employee representatives.

Secondary principals

The High Priority Principals’ Allowance is set out in clause 3.6 of the collective agreement.  

Clause 3.6 – Secondary Principals’ Collective Agreement

You’ll receive an allowance of $3,000 per annum if you work at one of the following eligible schools.
