Wet weather closes schools and ECE services in Rotorua
Updated at 4.30pm Monday 30 April 2018
Three schools and three ECE services in Rotorua are closed today due to flooding.
Lake Rerewhakaaitu School, Ngongotaha Primary School and Tawera Bilingual School closed today impacting more than 560 students. Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Arika, Te Kōhanga Reo o Tarimano and Waihi Kindergarten were also closed impacting approximately 100 learners.
A local State of Emergency remains in place for the Ngongotaha area in Rotorua and the Council is now focussed on post-flood recovery.
Although there has been flooding in South Canterbury, we have received no reports of school or early childhood service closures.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and are staying in contact with schools and early childhood services in the affected areas.
The decision to close remains that of the Board of Trustees for schools and Centre Managers/Owners for Early Learning services.
The best information will come from schools and early learning services themselves as they make decisions.
Parents are advised to check school or early childhood service websites or Facebook pages or contact them directly for the most up to date information.
